The Rinjani 100 Ultra Event takes place 26th to 28th May 2023

Lombok Timur, Thursday (May 25) – The East Lombok Regency Government (Pemkab Lotim) held a coordination meeting with various parties to finalize preparations for the Rinjani 100 Ultra event. The meeting was attended by the Regent of East Lombok, HM. Sukiman Azmy.

This cross-country running event is scheduled to take place from May 26 to 28 and will be participated by 939 participants from 35 countries. The participants will be divided into 5 categories, namely 27 Km, 36 Km, 75 Km, 119 Km, and 162 Km. Regent Sukiman expressed appreciation for the implementation of this event, as it can bring fame to East Lombok both nationally and internationally.

The East Lombok Regency is committed to actively participating in the success of this event. Support will be provided according to available resources, including support in terms of infrastructure, healthcare, security, and more. Sukiman urged all parties to maintain coordination and collaboration to ensure the success of this activity.

Previously, Rinjani 100 Race Director, Florenciano Hendricus Mutter, explained that Rinjani 100 Ultra is the 8th event held after the success of the 2022 edition. In this event, participants will face challenging and extreme tracks or trails. It will not only test their physical endurance but also their mental resilience with a predetermined running time of 50 hours.

The Trek That are More Challenging on the 8th Rinjani 100 Ultra Event

Hendricus revealed that the trail offers diverse terrains, ranging from savannah fields, steep volcanic rock areas, wilderness forests, gardens, rice fields, and more. Participants will also have to face hot weather during the day, cold weather at night, and occasional rain. Therefore, participants need to prepare themselves adequately to participate in this race.

Among the five available categories, the most popular category is the 36 Km class with a total of 517 participants. This route has become a favorite among runners as it does not require any specific qualifications to participate. Hendricus emphasized that although this route reaches the summit, the ascent to Mount Rinjani is highly challenging.

In addition to presenting various challenges, Rinjani 100 also attracts interest from cross-country runners both from within and outside the country. One reason is the opportunity to earn points for the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB). Although no prizes are given, many runners are interested because this event serves as a hobby, recreation, and motivation to reach the summit of Rinjani at a more affordable cost than traveling alone.

The competition is divided into 5 categories

For further information, the race will commence on May 26 at 3:00 PM Wita at Belanting Beach, East Lombok, for the 162 Km category runners. On the second day, May 27, the 119 Km category runners will be flagged off at 1:00 AM Wita, while the 75 Km category runners will start at 4:00 PM Wita at the same location. On the third day, May 28, the 36 Km category will start from Sembalun at 12:01 AM Wita, and the 27 Km category runners will be flagged off at 6:00 AM Wita at the same location.

Hendricus added that through this event, participants can test their courage to run in the Rinjani area and traverse the stunning mountainous terrain. Rinjani 100 is part of the Ultra Trail Mount Blanc (UTMB) activities, an internationally renowned running race. Participants who successfully complete this race will earn five points, which is the highest point achievable by runners in racing events in Indonesia. This race provides an opportunity for runners to enjoy the beauty of the coastal area before reaching the peak of Rinjani.
